Waking Up In Berlin: A Photo Essay

The windows of this U-bahn train is decorated with a pattern featuring the Brandenburg Gate

Considering that I have a full time job and that everything is closed on Sunday, my Saturdays tend to be quite hectic. When I am not visiting Copenhagen or hosting my boyfriend in Berlin for the weekend, Saturday mornings are my chance to play catchup with errands, shopping, and occasional pampering. Today was a welcomed change of pace. I met up with fellow Berlin-based travel bloggers, Adam from travelsofadam.com and Cheryl from cherylhoward.com for some brunching and shop-talk. Here are a few pictures from my day out in the big city!

The U7 headed to Rudow is always late by a few minutes. Meh
Traveling across town is something "typical" Berliners don't do. They tend to stay local
I finally reach my destination Pflügerstrasse 19 for the California Breakfast Slam
Eggs Benedict. You can't get food like this, just anywhere in Berlin.
The committed team behind the CABSlam serve up generous portions of California style breakkie
The location in Neukolln-Kreuzberg doubles as a club at night, this a Foosball table in the back room
A model of a ship on one of the dining tables
There is also a pool table
We brunched and talked shop for hours. As we headed to our next location I came across this street art, a tribute to Tahrir Square, the focal point of 2011 Egyptian Revolution.
We brave the cold in pursuit of cupcakes in Friedrichshain at Cupcake Berlin
Adam got the Red Velvet Cupcake, my lens was super foggy because of the weather but the effect was cool

The shop is small and quaint, they also sell American candy and treats not typically found in Germany
The looked and tasted delicious. This is the Peanut Butte Cupcake
So much variety and they are all made on site. Be sure to stop by next time you are in Berlin!

Hope you enjoyed the pictures.

How did you spend your Saturday this week?

  3. Seeing your day in pics only makes me wish more that I could show you around Tokyo/Yokohama for a day or more. I am actually in the middle of writing a blog about Japan that you're helping to inspire. Would have had it done earlier, but all the Whitney stuff sidetracked me.
I love the red velvet picture. Wouldn't even have noticed it was lens moisture had you not written it.

Thanks for sharing your day with those images, that inspires me to play tourist in London and share some as well, even though I really need to up my photography game!
