Reluctant Domestic Goddess: Stuffed Eggplant (Karniyarik)

karniyarik homemade
Karniyarik that we made with the help of our instructor

This past March I visited Istanbul with my younger brother. During the four day trip we took a Turkish Cooking course where I picked up some delicious recipes. This past week I had the chance to cook for some friends and decided to try Turkish stuffed eggplant which is called Karniyarik (Split Belly)

Burda Pattern 6046 Kristen Plus: Part 1

So, as if I don't have enough stuff to do, I decided to embark upon an endeavor like none other before. Well not really, I am making a dress from a pdf pattern purchased online from BurdaStyles. com
I recently learned of BurdaStyles from my German co-worker, apparently Burda is a big name in patterns and DIY crafts here in Germany, offering monthly catalogs on patterns that you can buy at your local news stand. I found one, and also purchased their Burda Plus book that is released twice a year and offers only patterns for sizes 44-56 EU. It was such a bargain, about 30 different patterns for about 5 Euros. There was one minor issue, the book was in German! (well duh, Nicole, you live in Germany)

Things I Took for Granted: Clean Eggs

Well tonight I decided to try a new brownie recipe. A coworker is leaving the office life and heading back to the States to play in horse shit. haha. (I will miss you, A) No seriously she is following her passion and reentering the horse world. I think, horse folk are like a cult, but don't tell any of them that I said that.

Reluctant Domestic Goddess

I made lasagna the other night it was so delicious. I hosted a good friend over for dinner and then split the rest amongst co-workers. If this thing sat in my house I would eat it everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Yeah I know you can freeze things like lasagna but for envirnomental reason I chose not to use my freezer. The freezer is a totally seperate unit from the fridge, and since I rarely have anything to freeze it's a total waste to keep it on all the time for the off chance that I might need to freeze something. So lasagna for everyone!

Vintage Inspired: Decorative Pillow

So for those that do not know I have a youtube channel. Yes, I am one of THOSE people. I eventually want to film my videos with a consistent background. Instead of buying a room divider, like a normal person, I planned to make one. So I used all my creative genius to come up with a concept, a checkered type canvas, that would feature various vintage inspired designs. I came across tons of cute digital images for download on etsy and went clicking away until I had an array of beautiful images that went along with my theme. The goal was to make a large canvas with each of these designs ironed on to a square, and each square would be finished with a mitered fabric binding then "quilted" together to form this decorative wall hanging.
