Tweet Franchesca Ramsey totally nailed this. I can not tell you how many time I have heard some of these comments from people that I consider "friends"
Hopefully it provides a bit of humor and perspective for women that have uttered these words to women of color. Although the intentions are not malicious, the words usually stay with us forever.

I was going to name this when "When Stupid People Attack" but I should practice what I preach about tolerance, right? This is a video of me recounting a story or two of the locals being a bit too familiar.
I understand I am different because I am a Black expat living in Germany  but please, do not touch me.

Cooking Class in Istanbul Turkey : Video

Tweet My youngest brother and I went on a short city break to Istanbul Turkey in March.
Many people don't believe that he is my brother but here is the proof! :) Look at me in my faux fur. bow!

It was his first time in Europe and I advise anyone coming across the pond for more than 4 days to try and hit two big cities. So he saw Berlin and Istanbul in one week. We did alot of sight-seeing and walking OMG. The city was the perfect blend of Eastern and Western culture. We were mobbed by people who had never seen Black Americans before and got scammed by a cab driver. It was an interesting trip but the highlight was this cooking course offered by Selin at Turkish Flavours She was an amazing host and made us feel right at home. She also gave us hints on where and what to eat. Here is a video of our course with a some pictures of Istanbul and the food we made. Enjoy

Unsolicited Condescending Health Advice

I suppose one of the side effects of gaining minor popularity on the internet is the exposure to all sorts of people. Some people mistake blogging, making youtube videos, or tweeting as their personal invitation into your life. In a way it is a sort of ticket to the show but is not and never will be an all inclusive backstage pass.

Recently on youtube I received a RANDOM email from a woman who mistook me for someone who not only asked for her opinion regarding my weight but valued it. She took the time to send, what she imagined, a well intentioned, thoughtful email that would surely be the key to cracking the code to my obesity and impending death. ::perma eyeroll::
